MMTS white light training system

The MMTS white light training system is a simple to use, economical live-fire judgmental training simulator.

The training system projects computer-generated graphics or live action video on to a single or panoramic screen unit. When the trainee shoots at the screen with his own service weapon, the image on the screen freezes. The shot locations are revealed by white lights fitted at the back of the screen.

Modes of operation

The MMTS white light training system has two modes of operation:

  1. Trainees shoot at projected graphics or at a pre-recorded video scenario. As shots are fired, the image on the projector freezes, and the bullet holes are revealed by the white lights.
  2. Using an external camera rig and two-way radio communication system, live action video and sound is transmitted to the training system in real-time. The live action video is projected on to the screen, and the external sound is relayed over the loudspeakers. The actors outside the range can hear the trainee's instructions, and the trainee can listen to their responses. When the trainee shoots, the image on the projector freezes, and the bullet holes are revealed by the white lights.

System components

The MMTS white light training system consists of four major components:

All cables for the training system are included.

Projection system

The projection system uses a LCD projector to display computer-generated graphics and digital video on the screen.

Computer-based control system

A personal computer running the MMTS software provides the interface for the instructor to set up and operate the training system.

Using the MMTS software, the instructor can:

The personal computer is normally installed inside a control room at the back of the range.

Camera rig & two-way radio communication system

The external camera rig consists of either one or three tripod-mounted digital camcorders. For systems with a panoramic screen, each camcorder is set at the correct angle to match the angles between screen sections.

The camera rig is portable and can be positioned at any location up to 25 metres from the range building. A patch panel and cables connect the camera rig to the personal computer.

The two-way radio communication system allows the trainee to stay in continuous dialogue with the actors outside the range.

System options

The MMTS white light training system can be supplied with the following options:

The Recording and Analysis system adds a camera (mounted at the top of the central screen unit), video monitor and additional software to the training system. This allows the actions of the trainee to be recorded and replayed from the personal computer.

The wireless audio-visual link provides greater flexibility for positioning the external camera rig, prior to recording the live action video.
